Focus: Your Best Interest (Pt.3)
Text: Ps.47:4
"He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah."
You have been learning that God always has your best interest at heart and that He always makes decisions that are in your favor or in your best interest. Isaiah declares, "AMONG the smooth stones of the stream is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, thou hast offered a meat offering. Should I receive comfort in these?" (Isa.57:6). Your portion is located in the right places. Your lot has fallen to you in pleasant places, according to the psalmist.
Paul says, "And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance AMONG all them which are sanctified…" The mandate given to Paul by God is "to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance AMONG them which are sanctified by faith that is in me" (Act.20:32; 26:18). Your inheritance is in a good location. The place of your possession is located among the smooth stones and among those who are sanctified. You have a goodly place for an inheritance, and you are surrounded with goodly and godly people. Paul says, "For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God" (Eph.5:5).
Evil people will not be allowed to share space with you in the kingdom of Christ. Wicked people will not occupy the same space with you.
Luke writes, "And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot" (Act.13:19). Canaan is yours for a possession. You have a place in Canaan. God is the divider of your portion. Your blessing has your name on it. God will do whatever it takes to bring you to the place of your inheritance. The cross says it all. The cross is God going all the way to save and secure you, and satisfy the yearning of your heart. Paul tells us, "In whom also we have obtained an inheritance…" (Eph.1:11).
In Christ you have obtained the unattainable. The redemptive work of Christ has placed you in a highly favored position and endowed you with a mighty possession.
The Spirit of God in you is not only seal of your eternal salvation, but it is also "the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory" (Eph.1:14).
Right now, there is need for you to see how blessed you are in Christ. Paul prays for "the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know… what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints" (Eph.1:18). You need to know how rich you are in Christ. You are extremely wealthy in Jesus Christ. Your heritage is huge. Paul says, "Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ" (Col.3:14).
Be aware and assured of your possession in Christ! God has reserved an inheritance for those who serve the Lord Jesus Christ, and that inheritance is eternal (Heb.9:15). Paul writes, "Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light" (Col.1:12). God has your name on the list of those who will share in the inheritance belonging to the saints. You are indeed a saint of God.
Your main inheritance is reserved for you in heaven. God is bringing you "to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you" (1Pet.1:4). God tells Daniel, "But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days" (Dan.12:13). You will stand in your place of inheritance on the last day. Your heavenly inheritance is waiting for you.
Part of your present inheritance is to serve the Lord and do His will. Luke writes about Zachariah, "According to the custom of the priest's office, his LOT was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord" (Lk.1:9). The same lot has fallen upon you now. You have been chosen to burn the incense of prayer and praise before your God. Let the sweet fragrance of your offering, worship and service come before God. It is the lot of your inheritance to glorify God here on earth. God has your best interest at heart. Always bear this fact in mind!
