Focus: Your Best Interest (Pt.2)
Text: Ps.47:4
"He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah."
God has your best interest at heart. He makes choices that go in your favor. He chooses your inheritance for you, knowing that you do not always know what is good or best for you.
Why does God choose the best for you? God chooses the best for you because you are His best. You are His inheritance. According to Peter, we are God's heritage (1Pet.5:3). He made you and inherited you as well. He allotted or allocated you to Himself. He delights in you. He is delighted having you as His unique possession.
Moses says, "For the LORD'S portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance" (Dt.32:9). Micah prays, "Feed thy people with thy rod, the flock of THINE HERITAGE, which dwell solitarily in the wood, in the midst of Carmel: let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old… Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of HIS HERITAGE? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy" (Mic.7:14,18). You are God's treasure - His heritage.
This is your confession as a believer in Christ: "The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot" (Ps.16:5). God does not only choose your inheritance for you, He also maintains it. He secures your portion. He preserves your lot in Christ.
The psalmist says, "My times are in thy hand…" (Ps.31:15). Time is man's great treasure given to him by God, and interestingly, God manages it for you. He knows the best time to get certain things across to you. He knows when you need sun or rain. He takes charge of your times - your seasons. Being God's best, He reserves the best things for you.
Isaiah declares, "Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it" (Isa.58:14). God has given you a mighty heritage. God has given you awesome privileges and eternal riches to enjoy.
The psalmist says, "He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may GIVE them the heritage of the heathen" (Ps.111:6). God has given you the heathen for an heritage. He says again, "Thy testimonies have I TAKEN as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart" (Ps.119:111). The heathen are your heritage, and also, God's word is your heritage.
What's given should be taken. Take all that God has given you. Embrace your blessings and possess your possessions. The psalmist declares, "Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward" (Ps.127:3).
The heathen, the word of God, and children are your heritage from the Lord.
God says to the children of Israel, "And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the LORD" (Ex.6:8). God has space for you. He is the giver of property. God gives both prosperity and posterity. That is your heritage. The psalmist adds, "Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance" (Ps.105:11). Canaan is the lot of your inheritance.
Jesus has gone to prepare a place for you. Heaven is God's prepared place for you. Canaan is a divinely allotted place for God's covenant people.
The psalmist declares, "For the ROD of the wicked shall not rest upon the LOT of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity" (Ps.125:3). You are blessed. You are highly privileged. You are mightily endowed. God wisely chooses your inheritance for you. He knows what you don't know. He sees what you can't see. He knows what is best for you. He is everywhere at the same time and possesses infinite power. Trust Him completely. Bank on His wisdom and trust in His judgment.
