Focus: The Titles Of Jesus (Pt.2)

Text: Lk.2:11

"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a SAVIOUR, which is CHRIST the LORD."

We have three titles of Jesus Christ in this text, namely, the Savior, the Christ, and the Lord.

We have looked at His title as the Savior. Now let's focus on that of the Christ.

Christ speaks of 'the anointed one, and his anointing.' Not only is He anointed, but He also anoints whoever He calls and chooses.

He is the anointed one of God. God appointed and anointed Him for holy service.

Peter tells us "how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him" (Act.10:38). The anointing empowers the anointed for supernatural exploits. Jesus Christ went about doing good because of the anointing. He healed the sick, delivered the oppressed, and cast out demons because of the anointing. Nicodemus says to Jesus that no one can do the miraculous except God is with him. The anointing enables one to work miracles and deliver supernatural services to others. Jesus Christ Himself says, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised" (Lk.4:18).

The anointing is God rubbing off on the anointed. The anointing is the presence of God in the life of the anointed through the Spirit of God.

The anointing works wonders. Isaiah 10:27 says, "And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing." The anointing is a yoke breaker and a burden remover. By the anointing shackles are shattered and impossibilities give way to divine solutions.

Christ, by His anointing, calls, consecrates, heals, teaches, and restores vision. David says, "He anoints my head with oil, and my cup runs over." Christ tells His church, "I counsel thee to buy of me... and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see" (Rev.3:18). His anointing restores one's vision. His oil is medicinal; it makes clear vision possible. The blind man of John 9 testifies, "A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight" (Jh.9:11). The anointing of Christ is creative and curative. It recovers one's sight.

Mark 6:13 says, "And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them." James says, "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord" (Jam.5:14). That's the curative power of the anointing. By His anointing, Christ breaks yokes and takes burdens away.

Christ's anointing rubs off on us. His anointing sets us apart and makes us holy. We are empowered to render service and solve problems.

Christ is the anointed one. His anointing is efficacious. He comes into our lives with His anointing. His anointing is our strength. His anointing enables us to do great things in His name. Christ is our Savior, and He gives us the unction to function as His anointed ones. We represent Him on earth.
