Focus: The Senses of Faith (Pt.3)

Text: Heb.11:13

"These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having SEEN them afar off…"

By faith we hear, see, touch, smell or feel, and by it we also taste. The psalmist says with joyful exclamation, "How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" (Ps.119:103). God's word is sweet and delicious to faith. Faith feeds and feasts on the infallible truths of divine revelation. 

God's word is faith's delicacy. The milk and meat of God's word grow our faith. The honey of God's word enlightens our spiritual eyes. The fruit of God's word is extremely delicious. Indeed, faith has a sense of taste.

The Lord Jesus Christ says to His Jewish audience and to us who believe in Him, "Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you" (Jh.6:53). Concerning His own blood, He says, "Drink ye all of it." He says that His body was broken for us to eat. Faith feasts on the flesh and blood of Christ. Christ is sweet to the soul.

St. Augustine said, "Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe." Yes, faith believes, and is rewarded by sight.

Faith possesses foresight, insight and hindsight, because it enjoys the light of revelation in the Scriptures. I pray that you use and exercise your senses of faith. The intelligence or faculty of faith will not fail you, for faith is duly and wholly informed and influenced by God's Spirit. Faith equips you by God's Spirit to be sensitive and discerning in all things. Hallelujah!
