Text: Ps.8:1

"That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth."

God's name is precious, and men need to know the preciousness and uniqueness of the name of our God.

God's name works miracles. The psalmist prayed, "Help us, O God of our salvation, for the GLORY of thy name: and deliver us, and PURGE AWAY our sins, for thy name's sake" (Ps.79:9). God's name carries weight. For His name's sake we are delivered and our sins are purged away.

The psalmist declares, "The name of the God of Jacob defend thee" (Ps.20:1). The name of God guarantees our deliverance and defense. The psalmist tells us that in the Lord's name our horn shall be exalted (Ps.89:24). Solomon declares, "The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe" (Prov.18:10). God's people find safety and security in God's name.

We read in the Psalms, "We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfil all thy petitions" (Ps.20:5). His name is our banner of victory. We read that "through thy name will we TREAD THEM UNDER that rise up against us" (Ps.44:5). His name saves and secures us.

David prays, "Save me, O God, by thy name" (Ps.54:1). He says, "Thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name" (Ps.61:5). We obtain eternal heritage through the worship of His name. He says, "All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them" (Ps.118:10). Our foes are crushed under the heavy name of God.

God's name is our weapon - a winning armor. No force can stand the power of God's name.

The psalmist says, "Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth" (Ps.124:8). It is in God's name that we find all the help that we need.

In the name of Jesus Christ every knee bows. In His name we obtain answers from our Father in heaven. In His name miracles happen - the lame walk, the blind see, the lost is saved, and mighty works take place.

When we go through the Psalms we will find what to do for the Lord's name. Here are some of them:

"GIVE unto the LORD the glory DUE unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness… Let us EXALT his name together… In God we BOAST all the day long, and PRAISE thy name for ever. Selah… I will WAIT on thy name; for it is good before thy saints… I will lift up my hands in thy name… SING FORTH the honour of his name: MAKE his praise glorious… We will call upon thy name… That they may SEEK thy name, O LORD… And shall GLORIFY thy name… Unite my heart to FEAR thy name… In thy name shall they rejoice all the day… Sing unto the LORD, bless his name… To give thanks unto the name of the LORD… Let them praise his name in the dance" (Ps.29:2; 34:3; 44:8; 52:9; 63:4; 66:2; 80:18; 83:16; 86:9,11,16; 96:2; 122:4; 149:3).

We pray in the Lord's name. We boast in His name. We honor His name. We love and bless His name. We fear and seek His name. We declare and glorify His name, and we rejoice in it.

Moses tells us, "For the LORD thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons for ever… And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the LORD thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, and to bless in the name of the LORD; and by their word shall every controversy and every stroke be tried… And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee… That thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD" (Dt.18:5; 21:5; 28:10; 28:58). God speaks to Moses concerning the priests, "And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them." (Num.9:5; 6:27).

We minister and bless God's people in the name of the Lord. We invoke God's name upon those who believe.

Nehemiah declares, "Stand up and bless the LORD your God for ever and ever: and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise" (Neh.9:5). We stand to bless the Lord's name.

Paul says, "Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ… And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus…" (Eph.5:20; Col.3:17).

I pray for you to encounter the names of God for yourself and to testify to the power in His names. Amen!
