Focus: The Journey of Faith
Text: Gen.20:13:
"And it came to pass, when GOD CAUSED ME to WANDER from my father's house..."
In Genesis 12 God tells Abraham to leave the familiar for the unfamiliar. In Hebrews 11 Abraham obeys and goes, solely banking on God.
He didn't know the way to anywhere. He had no idea where he was going and how to get there. No map and no GPS. What a journey!
Now Abraham tells Sarah, "God caused me to wander." That tells you that it was not an easy journey. He was roaming the desert. It was tough and rough, like journeying in the dark. He had no clues at all.
Why did God let him wander like a vagabond in the desert? God told him to go, yet he let him wander like a fugitive, roaming the desert and missing his way every now and then.
Truly, following God is walking in mystery. The path of faith is not simple. We only know that God leads, but the way, we know not. But here is the good news: Abraham finally arrived Canaan - Heb.12:5. He made it at last. God brought him through. He didn't wander forever. He didn't get lost. He didn't die along the way.
In fact, he says to his chief servant, "The LORD God of heaven, which TOOK ME from my father's house, and from the land of my kindred, and which SPAKE unto me, and that SWARE unto me..." - Gen.24:7.
Hear me, child of God, you may wander in your Christian journey, but you will surely arrive, for God is taking you. Take this threefold word with you:
God has SPOKEN and SWORN to you, and he is TAKING you along. Amen.
