Focus: The Good Spirit (Pt.2)
Text: Neh.9:20
"Thy good Spirit."
The Spirit of God is differentiated from all other spirits by the word 'good' attached to Him. God's Spirit is good, not bad, not evil, and indeed, not ugly.
It is interesting and exciting to know that the good Spirit of God is not only with us, but also in us. We are possessed by Him. He is a living reality within us. Paul says, "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" (1Cor.3:16). The good Spirit dwells in us, enabling us to be truly good, holy and lovely.
On the other hand, those who have not the good Spirit in them are having a bad spirit. No human being is devoid of a spirit. It is either one has the good Spirit of God or the ugly spirit of the devil. For worldly people, Paul says, "Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience" (Eph.2:2).
Just as the good Spirit of God lives and labors in the believer, even so the demonic spirit of Satan lives and works in the children of disobedience. They are under the control of Satan.
I went through the Scriptures, taking note of different spirits belonging to Satan. They are called:
*The spirit of the prince of the power of the air
*Familiar spirits
*Unclean (dirty) spirits
*Evil spirits
*Spirit of deaf and dumb
*Spirit of an unclean devil
*Spirit of bondage
*Spirit of the world
*Wicked spirits
*Lying spirits
*Foul (impure) spirit
*Spirit of infirmity
*Spirit of divination
*Seducing spirits
*Spirits of devils
*Spirit of fear
*Spirit of antichrist
*Spirit of error (falsehood)
Imagine being possessed by any of these spirits! Satan is truly and thoroughly bad; he is indeed terrible and horrible. Satan is utterly awful in his doings and dispositions. The unbeliever is under an ugly spirit; the believer in Christ is possessed by the good Spirit of God. Satan is not someone that anyone should follow. He is absolutely evil.
Child of God, you are blessed to have the good Spirit of God living in you and guiding your steps. You are different from the rest of humanity. You possess the sanity and sanctity of God's good Spirit. You enjoy the largesse of His goodness and draw from the fountains of His countless blessings.
