Text: Act.7:2

"The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham…"

The Scripture gives us several names of God, like the God of the spirits of all flesh, the God of all grace, the God of peace, and the God of all comfort, and right here in our text, we read of the God of glory appearing to Abraham the father of faith. These names are powerfully descriptive of our God, but God wanted Abraham to encounter His glory.

There was a fundamental need for Abraham to see God in His glory - the glory of His essence or being. Before he got to know God's doings, he had to know His being.

The manifestation of God's glory precedes the demonstration of His power.

As a matter of fact, each time God demonstrates His power, it is for the purpose of revealing His glory. Christ turned water into wine, and by doing so He manifested His glory.

God is glorious in every facet of His being and doing. The Scripture describes Him as the God of glory, the Father of glory, the King of glory, the Spirit of glory, and the Lord of glory. Glory follows Him everywhere. He occupies the universal throne of glory, and emits glory in all His ways.

The gospel of Christ is described as glorious gospel (2Cor.4:4; 1Tim.1:11). The church is described as the glorious church (Eph.5:27). Jeremiah talks about God's glorious high throne (Jer.17:12). Paul says, "Who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory" (1Thes.2:12). The Lord Jesus Christ tells us to pray, "For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen" (Mt.6:13).

Paul describes God's power as "glorious power," our liberty as "glorious liberty," and Luke describes the things done by Christ as "glorious things" (Col.1:11; Rom.8:21; Lk.13:17). Finally, God tells us through Isaiah that He created us for His glory (Isa.43:7).

We need a fresh encounter with the God of glory, and I pray you encounter your God afresh in your life. God requires that we reflect His glory on earth, and to reflect it, we must first encounter it. Like it happened to Abraham, let the God of glory reveal Himself to you. Jacob said, "The LORD God appeared to me… and blessed me," and that is my prayer for you.
