Text: Ps.111: 9

"He hath commanded his covenant forever."

God's covenant word is as eternal as God Himself. His promises are forever sure. God never speaks empty words. Whatever He says comes to pass.

God swore to keep His covenant promises. He never makes promises that He is incapable of fulfilling. Interestingly, God is fully aware of His own capabilities. His words are built on the bedrock of His immutability and infallibility. Isaiah declares, "For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee" (Isa.54:10). Isaiah says again, "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever" (Isa.40:8).

The word of God is true. The truth of God is an eternal verity. The will of God is certain. The ways of God are beautiful. The covenant of God is eternal. The promises of God are trustworthy because the maker of them is truly and eternally reliable.

The presence of God follows the word of God to establish it. The ark of the covenant is known as the symbol of God's presence in the midst of His people. The ark of the covenant signifies that God is ever present to keep His word. The promises of God are anchored to the immutability of God's nature and the infallibility of character. With the precious and stainless blood of Christ the covenant of God with His people is forever ratified by sealed. It stands forever.

If God kept His covenant promises yesterday, and He did, then we can trust Him to keep them today and tomorrow. God never says one thing and does another. From time to eternity He is capable and faithful. We can confidently and firmly lean on the bedrock of His covenant promises. Yes, we can bank on His word, for it is sure. According to Paul, all the promises of God are yes and amen in Christ Jesus. Amen!
