Focus: Spot Your Strength!

Text: Judg.16:6

"Tell me I pray thee wherein thy great strength lieth."

No man will go far in life who has not discovered his area of strength. You cannot be everywhere doing everything, and expect to achieve greatness in anything. The path to greatness begins with spotting your strength and securing it.

Samson knew exactly where his divine power lay, but he was unable to protect it. Anointing you can't protect will ultimately destroy you. Your strength is meant to be a secret. People would see power oozing out of you, but find it hard to know its secret or how it is being generated.

It's essential that you identify your potential.

We have the story of Moses' birth. In Exodus, we read, "And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when SHE SAW him that he was a GOODLY child, she hid him three months" (Ex.2:2). Take note of this: "she saw that he was a goodly child…" In the Acts of the Apostles, we read, "In which time Moses was born, and was EXCEEDING FAIR, and nourished up in his father's house three months" (Act.7:20). Here we can see that the child was "exceeding fair." In Hebrews, we also read, "By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because THEY SAW he was a PROPER child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment" (Heb.11:23). Here in Hebrews we are made to understand that the child was "a proper child." In Exodus, it was the mother who saw the uniqueness of the child, and right here in Hebrews, it was both parents who got an insight into the child's potential. They saw his destiny and dignity. The Message Bible says, "She saw there was something special about him… a most beautiful baby… they saw the child's beauty." In fact the Greek word for 'proper' is asteios, from 'astu,' which means 'city.' It means 'urbane,' 'polished,' 'refined,' 'cultured,' or 'svelte.' The parents saw in their infant a city boy, a palatial figure, royalty. They saw in the little boy an extraordinary personality and a man of an outstanding ability and destiny. For that, they were determined to go against the king's edict. They cherished, nourished and preserved the child.

I believe parents have a role to play in discovering the potentials and futures of their children. Thomas Chalmer mentioned "something fit to do" as one of the three grand essentials for happiness.

There's something you were fitted for right from your mother's womb.

God says to Jeremiah, "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations" (Jer.1:5). Paul says, "But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace" (Gal.1:15).

I pray for you to find out what your treasure is and where it lies. You will lay waste your powers until you find and put them to use. You are not special everywhere, but somewhere in particular. There's something you can do best above all else. Find out your area of specialty, and then nurture, nourish and cherish it!

According to the apostle Paul, every one has been given something to do that shows who God is. Find it! Spot your strength! There's something unique about you. Don't die a nobody! Be wary of who you share sacred secrets with!
