Focus: Our Eternal Home
Text: Ps.23:1,6
"The LORD is my Shepherd… I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever."
Psalm 23 begins with the LORD (YHVH) and ends with the house of the LORD (YHVH). The LORD our Shepherd has a house - a home for His own sheep. In this life, we are on a journey to the home of the Lord. We are going home to be with our God. Every day of our lives we are getting closer home.
Isaiah 12 begins with God withdrawing His anger from us, showing us mercy, saving us, comforting us and becoming our song. Then, in the last verse, we read, "Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of ZION: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the MIDST of thee" (Isa.12:6). Here in the last verse, the Holy One is now at home in Zion; He is right in the midst of His people. From the place where He saved us, He brings us to His home in Zion. In His house we are safe and secure.
In our present day existence God is at home in us, and in eternity we will be at home with God.
Jesus Christ talked about His Father's house, which He is getting ready for us. What a joyful news! Most importantly, our chief joy is that of being with Jesus Christ finally. He assures us that we are going to spend eternity with Him. Interestingly, the presence of the Lord guarantees our pleasure, power, protection and provision. God's presence is our most cherished possession. In His presence we find our true home.
Let's live in readiness for the Lord's return! He is coming back for us, and His coming is imminent. It is either we meet Him alive or we meet Him from the grave, but one thing is certain: we are going to meet Him.
A woman got married to a banker, who later died in an accident. The lady got married to another man, this time a circus performer. An accident also claimed his life. The lady got remarried to a minister of God. In fact the minister was the person who conducted the funeral of the circus performer. In the course of time the minister also died. Lastly the woman settled down in marriage with a mortician. As she shared her sad story with a friend, her friend asked her of what informed her choice of these men of varied professions. She replied, "Well, if you think about it, it's not too hard to understand. One for the money… two for the show… three to get ready… and four to go!" The woman got married to a minister of God in order to get herself ready for eternity, and then she got married to a mortician for her final departure from this earthly body and scene.
While we live for Christ on earth, let's be constantly dreaming of our eternal home with God and the boundless, bottomless and endless bliss of a brand new universe governed by God!
