Focus: My Glory Sings

Text: Ps.30:12

"To the end that MY GLORY may sing praise to thee, and not be silent…"

God delights in my wellbeing, wellness and welfare. God is interested in what happens to me day by day. He loves to see me succeed in what I do. My downfall doesn't give Him joy. My failures are not a reflection of divine goodness. God never gloats when I fail or fall. My God is not a sadist; He takes no pleasure in my shame or in my trouble. It will not give Him joy if my glory ends up at the cemetery - buried six feet below.

The Lord Jesus Christ says to the people, "And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?"(Lk.13:16). My bondage is not good news to His ears. He doesn't feel good about my tears. He sighs at my suffering and frowns at my pain. He wants me to be free from my infirmity. He knows how long I have been in the grip of the enemy, and He has come to set me free and end my years of misery. It is my trophy that praises God, not my trouble.

The psalmist says, "To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent." The previous verse helps to explain our text. It says, "Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness."

The reason I live is to praise my God. The reason God turns my mourning into dancing, my grief into gladness, and the reason He robes me with joy is for me to sing His praises.

He blesses me, so that in the end, His blessings upon my life will speak for Him and sing forth His praises.

God wants that I praise Him with all I am and all I have. His ultimate end or goal is to have my glory sing His praise. My glory glorifies my God. My glory is an extension and manifestation of God's own glory. I have nothing that God has not given me. He gives me greatness before I achieve it. All I have is God-given. Minus God there is no me. In Christ I live, I move, and I have my whole being.

In Revelation 5, we have the chorus of the heavenly choir, which says, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing" (Rev.5:12). The Lamb of God to receive power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, and glory. The most interesting fact of this verse of Scripture is that Christ the redeemer is receiving all of the above from His redeemed ones. The Lord has blessed His redeemed with power, riches, wisdom, strength, blessings, glory, and honor, and now their redeemer is in turn receiving all those from His redeemed. The Lord Jesus Christ says to the Father, "And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them…" (Jh.17:22). The glory of the Son of God has become the glory of the sons of God. I only give back to the Lord what He has given me.

The psalmist declares, "For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour" (Ps.8:5). God has graciously placed on my head the crown of glory and honor, and in worship I return it to God, just the same way that the 24 elders laid down their crowns before the Lamb on the throne. My glory sings forth the praise of God.

God takes pleasure in my glory and success. I join the psalmist in saying, "Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant" (Ps.35:27). Like the psalmist, I pray, "Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem" (Ps.51:18). Like him, I declare, "The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy… For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation" (Ps.147:11; 149:4). My glory sings forth the praises of my God. My glory will not be silent. My glory will ascend to God, not descend to the grave. Let my glory sing to the Lord!
