Focus: Jesus Is Lord!
Text: Mk.6:47
"And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land."
John in his Gospel presents Christ as the Son of God and chooses seven or eight of His miracles to show Him as the Lord over nature and the circumstances of natural life.
The Lord rules over all the elements of nature. The whole universe is under His command. He is the maker and master of all things. He has absolute power and infinite wisdom.
Our text tells us about the disciples being out there in the sea, and Himself in the land. Right there in the sea, His disciples are bombarded by a life-threatening storm. Fear grips them as death stares them in the face. In that moment, Christ shows up for them. He calms the storm, both the storm of fear in their hearts and the physical one about them. Mark reports, "And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered" (Mk.6:51). Remember that He was on land while they were in the ship amid the stormy sea, but now He is in the ship with them, taking charge of their storm. While on land He is in control, and even now in the sea He is still in control.
He is the Lord over the land and the sea. He governs everywhere and never goes on vacation, not even for a second.
John tells us in the book of Revelation that the angel of the Lord "had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the SEA, and his left foot on the EARTH" (Rev.10:2). The Lord our God has dominion over the land and the sea. One foot on the land and another on the sea show us the sovereign authority of our God. We are told that the people "worship him that made HEAVEN, and EARTH, and the SEA, and the fountains of waters" (Rev.14:7). He is the maker and manufacturer of all things.
The angel's feet on both land and sea is evidence that your God is in charge of all spheres of human existence. Nothing takes Him by surprise.
Mark tells us, "And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him" (Mk.6:51,54). God will do something remarkable in your life, and by it, you will know that your God is perfectly in control, and there's no need for you to fret or freak out about any stormy situations.
Your God can be trusted to charge of your life and to make everything going on in your life advance His purpose and bring forth His glory. Jesus Christ is Lord - the Lord of land and sea, and of heaven and earth. Trust Him!
