Focus: The Promise Keeper

Text: Rom.4:21

"And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform."

God is a performer of His promises. He keeps His word. His word is His bond. He is never a promise breaker. The reason being that He possesses infinite resources and limitless ability to bring His promises to pass. Abraham was fully persuaded that God had all it took to fulfill His promises. He banked on the immense ability of God to do as He said.

God promised Abraham two things: land and seed. The two are connected, because a landowner would need a seed to inherit and maintain his land. Prosperity and posterity, soil and seed, property and people belong together.

When it came to the land and the seed issues, Stephen said, "And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give IT to him for a possession, and to his SEED after him, when as yet he had no child" (Act.7:5). Here we see Stephen making mention of the land and the seed. In Gen.12:5,7, we read, "And they went forth to go into the LAND of Canaan; and into the LAND of Canaan they came… And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy SEED will I give this LAND…" In Gen.21:1, we read, "And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken." God fulfilled the promises of both the land and the seed. He did not fail.

The Word says, "There hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised…" (1Kgs.8:56). Let me reassure you that God does whatever He says. In Heb.10:23, we read, "For he is faithful that promised." Heb.11:11 says that Sarah "judged him faithful who had promised." Titus 1:2 says, "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began."

God cannot lie. It is absolutely impossible for God to lie. He is the God of truth, and he makes good his promises.

Paul says, "Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it" (1Thes.5:24). Be assured that God will do it! In Rev.19:11 Christ is called "the Faithful." God is loyal to His word. The psalmist declares, "For thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name" (Ps.138:2).

His name is the promise-keeper. Only God can provide what He alone promised.

Trust God to keep His word. Bank on His promises. Follow God patiently and expectantly! Stand on the sure promises of your God! Be confident and consistently hold on to the things God has spoken to you! It is written in the Word that there shall be a performance of those things that the Lord has spoken. God will surely come through to you. I say to you with certainty that nothing fails around where your God is. Amen!
