Focus: From Believing To Worshipping
Text: Jh.9:38
"And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him."
John tells us the story of the man born blind, and how Christ miraculously healed him.
One of the points that touched me deeply about the story is the fact that the blind man did not know his healer and benefactor. The Lord Jesus Christ said to him, "Dost thou believe on the Son of God?" (Jh.9:35). And here is the response of the man, "Who is, Lord, that I might believe on him?" He had no idea who the man that healed him was.
Faith is a function of knowing who God or Christ is. Faith has God as its object. It cannot rest on anything else. Only God can carry the weight or gravity of faith.
The man says in essence, 'If you can help me identify the Son of God or he who healed me, I will believe in him.' Then the Lord Jesus Christ said to him, "Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee" (Jh.9:37). You can be in front of greatness and not know it. You can be standing in front of your destiny and not be aware of it. You can be in front of your creator and not recognize Him. Jacob said, "The Lord is in this place, and I knew it not."
We are often not aware of who our God is and what He is capable of doing.
Upon knowing who his benefactor was, he believed in and worshipped Him. Believing always leads to worshipping. Those who believe in Christ will always bow in worship to Him. The man did not stop at believing in Christ, but goes on to bowing down in worship to Him.
Faith is action-oriented. It believes. It worships. It works. It steps out without where it is going. Faith is focused on honoring and worshipping God.
Jesus Christ revealed Himself to the blind man, and the result of it was that the blind man believed and bowed to the Lord in worship. He was an informed and a grateful worshipper.
The man moved from receiving a miracle to knowing the miracle-worker to believing in the miracle-worker and to worshipping the miracle-worker who happened to be the Son of God.
