Text: 1Sam.17:40

"And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine."

We have shared so far on the smooth stones of the Name and the Word. Now we move to the smooth stone of the Anointing of God's Spirit.

The anointing of the Holy Spirit is a weapon. The anointing secures. It functions like a hedge. It serves as a supernatural covering for those who possess it. The Spirit-anointed person is divinely protected by God.

The anointing is God's smooth stone for spiritual warfare and by it victory is guaranteed.

The Lord speaks through the psalmist, "Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm" (Ps.105:15). The anointed is a dangerous person; he operates under the covering of God. In Isaiah we read, "And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing" (Isa.10:27). The anointing liberates and protects.

Laban said to Jacob, "It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad" (Gen.31:29). God would not allow Laban to hurt Jacob, His anointed servant. No weapon shall prevail against the anointing. Pilate said something similar to Christ, but Christ said to him that he had no such power.

Man's power is under God's control and supervision.

The anointing, among other things, enables, provides and protects. The anointing is the power of the Holy Spirit operating from within the anointed person. The anointing serves as a covering to those who have it in their lives. It shields us from certain dangers and attacks. The anointing is a part of our divine armor, and it is mentioned in the Scripture as the armor of God, the armor of righteousness, and the armor of light. The anointing surrounds us with a wall of fire. Fire comes out of stones, and we are baptized with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Prophet Habakkuk declares, "Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, even for salvation with thine anointed; thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah" (Hab.3:13). For the sake of the anointed, God is prepared to wound or smash the head of the wicked. As Israel traveled from one point to another, God would not allow the nations along their paths to harm or hurt them, and that is because of the anointing of God. The anointing distinguishes and protects God's people. The anointing shields us from evil.

Those who honor the anointing shall be honored by the anointing. It is the smooth stone in the hands of every believer.
