Focus: Check Your Attitude!
Text: Phil.2:5
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus."
What is attitude? It is simply this: it's what's in the mind. It is a mental disposition to act in certain ways. It is a mental state that involves our beliefs and values. Attitude is what gives us good or bad smells. It draws others to us or chases them away from us.
It's said that attitude is everything. A person rises or falls on attitude. Again, it's believed that altitude is determined by attitude. Every man gets to decide his attitude. It's a choice that an individual makes.
What's your attitude? Your attitude determines how you carry yourself. Whether people want to stay around you or want nothing to do with you is a matter of attitude. Joyce Meyer said that "a bad attitude is like a flat tire. If you don't change it, you won't go anywhere." Check your attitude carefully! Examine it closely to know its quality or texture. Find out if it is ugly or beautiful. Poor attitude is a huge liability. It de-markets one's personality.
Paul is asking us to be in possession of Christ's kind of mental attitude, which is a mindset that believes in humility and values being humble regardless of one's pedigree, position, and/or possession in life. As God in the human body, Christ saw nothing wrong in humbling Himself to the point of dying on the cross in a most ignominious manner for the sake of all humanity. From heaven He came down to the earth, then to the cross and finally to the grave, and He did all of this for man's sake and for his good. That is a noble and excellent attitude.
Self-centered people always have awful attitudes. Human ego has a way of edging God out and projecting itself.
Attitude enthrones or enslaves a person. People admire or abhor us because of our attitude.
Nehemiah's team of workers had a fantastic attitude. Nehemiah says, "So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a MIND TO WORK" (Neh.4:6).
It is time to work on your attitude. Adopt and adapt to the mental disposition of Christ. Christ exhibited excellent attitude at all times and in all situations. He saw life, humans, and things differently. He had a radical view of life and treated people with dignity and kindness. Peter calls upon us to follow in the footsteps of Christ. He has left us a perfect example. Let's follow it! Please check out your attitude and ensure that you are Christ-like in your attitude.
