Focus: 5 Pillars of Faith

Text: Heb.10:23

"Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised."

The Christian Faith rests on five indestructible pillars. These five pillars are:

*Faithfulness of God

The first pillar on which our faith rests is the faithfulness of our God. Moses proclaimed to the people of Israel, "Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the FAITHFUL God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations" (Dt.7:9). Paul writes, "God is FAITHFUL, by whom ye were called… God is FAITHFUL… FAITHFUL is he that calleth you, who also will do it… But the Lord is FAITHFUL, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil… He is FAITHFUL that promised… She judged him FAITHFUL who has promised… He is FAITHFUL… The FAITHFUL witness… The FAITHFUL and true witness… Called FAITHFUL and true…" (1Cor.1:9; 10:13; 1Thes.5:24; 2Thes.3:3; Heb.10:23; 11:11; 1Jh.1:9; Rev.1:5; 3:14; 19:11). Peter describes God as the "FAITHFUL creator" (1Pet.4:19). God is dependable. He has character. He is the promise keeper and the God who is absolutely loyal to His covenant.

*Absolute Authority and Ability of God

The second pillar on which our faith rests is the absolute authority and ability of God.

In His post-resurrection declaration, Jesus Christ said to His disciples, "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth" (Mt.28:18). Christ wields absolute authority and infinite power. In Rev.19:6 a mighty voice declares, "For the Lord omnipotent reigneth." Our God is the God of all power, and our faith rests on the power of God.

*Immutability of God

The third pillar on which our faith rests is the immutability of God. God is changeless. He is not given to mood swings. He never acts out of character. The writer of Hebrews says, "Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie…" (Heb.6:18). God does not say one thing and ends up doing another thing. There is no conflict between His being and His doing. He acts in consistency with His nature and character.

*Truth of God

The fourth pillar on which our faith rests is the truth of God. God is known as "the God of truth." The Spirit is called "the Spirit of truth." Christ says, "I am the truth." God is always truthful. He never lies. He says what He means and means what He says. His truth is absolute and eternal.

Our faith is rooted in the absolute truth of God. Our faith is not based on how we feel at any point in time. Our faith is objective, not subjective.

*Heavenly hope

The fifth and final pillar on which our faith is built is our heavenly hope. Hebrews 6:18 and 19 says, "That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the HOPE set before us: Which HOPE we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil." Peter writes, "To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you" (1Pet.1:4). Our faith is rooted in our heavenly hope. It is a sure and a solid hope. It is hope that will never disappoint us.

Beloved, have faith in God. Your faith in God will not fail you. Your faith in Christ will surely bring you to God's desired end. Your faith will see you through time and into a blissful eternity.

Our God is faithful, able, immutable, truthful, and fulfiller of His eternal promise and purpose. Child of God, be sure that your faith is fully resting on God Himself and His infallible word. He never fails.
