Focus: Banking With God
Text: 2Tim.1:12
"I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have COMMITTED unto him against that day."
God has the ability to keep your trust. He's absolutely trustworthy. Whatever you commit into His hands is safe. He is eternally dependable. He possesses beyond measure power and wisdom. No depositor will lose a dime or nickel in God's bank. As a matter of fact, the bank of heaven never goes bankrupt. The treasure vault of heaven has no bottom. God has impeccable integrity and immaculate purity.
Unlike God, man in his fallen nature cannot be trusted. Man has the potential to fail and falter. John writes, "But Jesus did not COMMIT himself unto them, because he knew all men" (Jh.2:24). Christ knows what stuff man is made of. Man is fickle and faltering. Christ would not give His heart to a godless and faithless man.
Christ knew He would be safe in the hands of His Father, and so, on the cross He said, "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost" (Lk.23:46). His body was being crushed on the cross; His soul would soon leave His body to go on a mission to hell, and now He had just committed His spirit into the hands of His Father. Peter also writes, "Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously" (1Pet.2:23).
Christ knew that earthly courts of justice were not final. In fact, He knew that the human courts had become temples of injustice, not courts of divine jurisprudence. He knew that His Father was still in charge of the final court of appeal.
The Supreme Court of Heaven will one day revisit every case which the lower courts of earth had treated so unfairly.
On the other hand, His Father had already handed over to Him all future judgments. John writes, "For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son" (Jh.5:22).
Let's see some of the stuff you can commit to God for safekeeping! Peter says, "Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their SOULS to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator" (1Pet.4:19). Peter is saying that God is capable of guarding our souls, since He is the creator of them. As our creator He is faithful. He didn't create us to destroy us.
God creates and also protects what He creates. He has ample power and rock-solid character both to create and protect what He creates.
Commit your soul to God for safeguarding!
Solomon says, "Commit thy WORKS unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established" (Prov.16:3). The wisest of men is asking us to commit our works into God's hands. He has the ability to make our labor productive. The psalmist says, "Into thine hand I commit my SPIRIT: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth" (Ps.31:5).
Commit your spirit to God! Don't let the devil take over the rein of your spirit or life! Satan ruins the spirits and minds of those who let him. The psalmist declares, "Commit thy WAY unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass" (Ps.37:5). Job writes, "I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my CAUSE" (Jb.5:8).
You can see all the stuff worth committing to God - your soul, your works, your spirit, your ways, and your cause. He keeps all of it safely.
Commit your all to God! Bank all your valuables with Him! Trust Him with your whole life and all your resources! Paul says, "In Him we live, move, and have our being." A long time ago an African pastor declared, "In Christ my past is settled, my present makes sense, and my future is secure." God is a trustworthy and successful business person. He is a faithful creator - provider and preserver. You will never lose, doing business or banking with God. Make your deposits now! Save for eternity! Bank with heaven! Insure your future and trust God with your life and possessions! You are absolutely safe in God's hands.
